Perhaps the only thing most of us know about the mountain kingdoms of the Himalayas is that they sit on top of the world. The domain of the storied Sherpa guides, and Sir Edmund Hillary amongst others, Bhutan has remained a secret place from outsiders until recently. Located in a beautiful valley at around 7,800 feet in elevation, this idyllic locale is known as the “Temple of Heaven”.
Bhutan may be remote, but the lengthy trip will definitely be worth the while. Green, lush and very mountainous, the valley is surrounded by high cliffs with centuries old monasteries clinging to rock faces.
